Ranked: The 7 Snacks That Survive a 6-Hour Campaign
The Dankmaster General · July 12, 2026
A six-hour session is a logistics problem wearing a fun hat. Somewhere around hour three, the initiative order stops mattering and the real question becomes: what can you eat with one hand while the rogue does something unforgivable? We ran the numbers at our own table so you don't have to sacrifice a character sheet to orange dust.
The one rule: greaseproof or bust
The average tabletop session runs three to four hours, and the longer campaigns push well past six — which is a lot of hand-to-mouth traffic over borrowed dice and a shared battle map. As game designer Matt Colville puts it, the game is ultimately an excuse to get people around a table — and nothing ends a good table faster than a greasy d20 skittering off into the couch cushions forever. Snack accordingly.
The ranking
1) Pretzels — dry, loud, structurally honest. 2) Grapes — hydration cosplaying as dessert. 3) Popcorn — high volume, low commitment. 4) Trail mix — the diplomat's choice. 5) Chips — glorious, high-risk, keep a napkin protocol. 6) Chocolate — melts, but morale-critical. 7) Anything with a sauce cup — banned near the map, beloved everywhere else.
Dress for the occasion
Snacks are half the ritual; the uniform is the other half. Roll high, sit low, and let the shirt do the talking while your mouth is full.
